"AFRICA'S MIRACLE SONG"
(By Vincent P. Magombe, London, May 1994.)
[Africa is a
continent full of suffering, death
and chaos...
Yet a miracle seems to be happening!
We must not
despair, where there is hope! This
poem, which
invokes memories of Martin Luther
King, was
written on the day the first black
President was
inaugurated in South Africa.]
Here comes the Wind...
Here
comes the Wind of Freedom...
Blowing Gently -
Blowing
Roughly...
Here comes the Wind...
Blowing - over the Green Mountains of Mbale!
Blowing - in the River Valleys of Nambale!
Blowing - across the Desert-lands of Sahara!
Blowing - in the Wonderlands of Kalahari!
Here Comes the Wind....
* * * * * * *
"I have a Dream!" .... he said .... "I have a Dream!"
* * * * * * *
Can You hear -
The
Sweet... Sweet... Sweet Song?
Can You Hear -
The
Rhyme... of the Freedom Gong?
I... Hear -
The
Song... in the Soft Whispers of Hope!
I hear it coming -
Fresh...
as a Sprouting Crop!
Ooooooh... Africa -
The
Land of Song and Gong...
Ooooooh... Africa -
My
Mother to Whom I belong...
We shall Go -
All
the Way Long to Redemption!
We shall Dance -
And
Sing at the Heart of Liberation!
* * * * * *
*
I... Have a Dream!" .... he said .... "I... Have a Dream!"
* * * * * *
*
Once upon a Time...
The
Fortune Tellers told of a Miracle...
They told - of a Miracle,
In
the Shadows of Oppression!
They told - of a Miracle,
The
Miracle of Liberation!
Oooh, Come Miracle,
South
Africa,
Oooh,
Come Miracle...
It has come -
Like
a Whirl-Wind...
In
the Land Full of Winds!
It has come -
Like
a Storm...
In
the Land Full of Storms!
It has come -
With
the Full Moon...
In
the Middle of a Tropical Night!
It has come -
With
the Rising Sun...
At
the Break of a Sunny Day!
Once upon a Time...
The
Fortune Tellers told of a Miracle...
They told - of a Miracle,
In
the Shadows of Oppression!
They told - of a Miracle,
The
Miracle of Liberation!
* * * * * * *
"I have a Dream!" ... he said ... !I have a Dream!"
* * * * * * *
Tomorrow...
Africa's
Children -
Shall
Rejoice...
In
a Dream-Come-True!
